More About JAKendall

Artist J.A.Kendall, known for his Tall Ship series seen at www.TALLSHIPprints.com has recently expanded his site to include scenes that span an art career, thus far, of over 35 years, and covers a number of outstanding locations around the world ( now seen at: www.jakendall.com ) . Scenes such as USS Constitution (Old Ironsides), the Eagle, Endeavour, Kruzenshtern, Danmark, Sir Winston Churchill, Amerigo Vespucci, Sea Cloud, Gauyas, Dar Pomorza, Gorch Fock II, Christian Radich, Balclutha, and Golden Hinde are now found at www.jakendall.com  The new site has a section for Tall Ships, a San Francisco section, a section  for French Quarter street scenes and Jazz musicians, an area for scenes of the Island of Ibiza, Spain, an area for Sausalito houseboats and a new section called “Maine Windjammers & Lighthouses”. Kendall, who now works out of his gallery, “Kendall Studio & Gallery”, in Georges Mills, NH at the north end of Lake Sunapee, works in a technique he calls “sepia pen & ink wash drawing”. His highly detailed originals take an average of 200 – 250 + hours each to create. Those who purchase a signed, or signed & numbered print from Kendall get more that just a fine piece of artwork. Kendall carefully researches each of his Tall Ships, and locations, and gives the viewer valuable information about each scene. In the San Francisco series, for instance, if there is something you’d like to know about the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Cathay House (in Chinatown), old Victorian homes, the Buena Vista Café,or the Old Cliff House etc., it is included with your scene. He includes great information, as well, about the French Quarter & Jazz in New Orleans.

About the artist: Kendall has specialized in a technique that sets his work apart from that done by most other artists. His highly detailed sepia pen & ink wash drawings combine the fine detail obtained with a crow quill pen with the wash technique associated with watercolor. Essentially, he draws and paints with ink. The sepia brown ink gives a timeless feeling to his street scenes, much like the sepia toned photographs of the turn of the century, while his “Tall Ship” series is reminiscent of the “Golden Age of Sail”. He loves the challenge of capturing the moving sea in both his tall ship, and new Maine windjammers & lighthouses series, and has been praised by fellow Marine Artists for the countless hours he spends capturing this movement in his scenes. His work has appeared in numerous newspaper articles from the San Francisco Chronicle to The New Hampshire Sunday News. He has been artist of the month in “Seaways – Ships in Scale” magazine, appeared in the book “San Francisco”, by Carole Chester, been featured on the popular WMUR TV show “Chronicle”, and been interviewed on the well known NHPR show “The Front Porch” with John Walters. A three page article in the Lake Sunapee area Soo Nipi Magazine called “J.A.Kendall: an Extraordinary Talent”, chronicled the life of this artist as he traveled around the world creating his scenes over a period of more than three decades.   Please take a moment and check out the work of this dedicated artist showing you numerous scenes of Tall Ships, San Francisco, New Orleans, Ibiza Spain, and Maine windjammers & lighthouses as seen through his eyes at: www.jakendall.com
